Description

This online course is for product managers who will be deployed onto a digital project or programme, as part of a multi-disciplinary agile team. You will explore at a deep level a number of techniques to understand the role of the product manager delivering digital services in government. You will apply your learning in a simulated project environment and share your experiences with fellow practitioners.

  • Agile Principles - How are we applying these
  • Why agile, and Complexity - The need for a different way of working and how we communicate this with our stakeholders
  • Scrum - events, artefacts, and roles - Focus on the Product Manager role and how we interact
  • Product Journey and Vision - Steps along the Product Journey, the importance of vision and how to convey this
  • Story Mapping and User Stories - Identifying and visualising user stories
  • Backlog Management - Making the backlog work for our users, us, and our stakeholders

Outcomes

You will:

  • understand the role of the product manager in an agile team
  • develop to a deeper level skills appropriate to a product manager
  • understand how to develop a product vision
  • understand how to develop and use a product backlog

Eligibility

This course is open to product managers who are, or are due to start working on the development of a digital service in Scotland as part of a multi-disciplinary team. It will help you understand how to apply your skills in an agile setting.  This course does not teach product management, instead it focuses on the role of the product manager in an agile team.  A minimum of 6 months’ work experience in a product manager role is a pre-requisite to attending this course. This is essential as you will be need to draw on that experience in order to participate in and contribute to this interactive course.

 Course Format

  • Online delivery
  • 5 hours per day (including regular breaks during training) 

Equipment required

  • Laptop, desktop, or tablet that can access Zoom
  • Google account (recommended)
  • Smartphones not suitable due to length of course
